Expressive Arts in Healing Trauma

On the blizzarding first night of February, I provided a training to the volunteers at WeSupport on a brief overview of expressive arts as a collective modality for trauma treatments.

I am not an expressive arts therapist, nor can I claim to know in great depth of each of the art disciplines. But my interest to incorporate expressive arts into my therapeutic work officially kicked off when I started being supervised by a Board Certified Art Therapist.

I am a strong believer of our innate right and ability to express and create, and I am fascinated by the nearly magical healing power of all forms of arts.

Since we were a little child, we never recoil from self-expression. Sing, even when we are out of pitch; doodle, no matter how the image turns out; dance, unstopped by the lack of audience.

Every one of us was born an artist.

This presentation does not mean to serve as a training for any specific type of expressive arts therapy, nor as advice for (self) treatment or a substitute for psychotherapy by a qualified professional.
